TDF Says: Farewell To Trevor

10-09-2007 | webmaster

For the past 28 years, Trevor Walton has been an independent voice in New Zealand deer farming, as editor and publisher of The Deer Farmer magazine, The Deer Farming Annual and the e-newsletter Hot Droppings.

Trevor and his wife Angie sold their business last month to rural publishing company, Country-Wide Publications Ltd, owned by Tony Leggett and Dean Williamson. (See the Hot Droppings Special Issue of 21 August. If the xtra Bubble trouble that occurred that week meant you didn’t get that issue of Hot Droppings, please let us know and we’ll re-send it.)

It has been a pleasure to work with Trevor. He and Angie structured an excellent small publishing business, with part-time contractors, a small group of regular contributors and columnists, and advertisers and contacts all around the world.

When Trevor talked about the deer industry, he said “we”. The insights he has gained and shared over 28 years have provided a rich vein of commentary for the industry. He was very supportive in other ways too, such as funding and helping judge awards and helping overseas people make NZ connections when requested.

Earlier this year, long-time TDF contributor Lyn McKinnon paid tribute to Trevor in Freelance Writer: “[He is] a generous, experienced and professional employer with the resourcefulness and courage to run a truly independent, high quality, rural magazine.”

For my part, I have found Trevor very good to work with because he takes care with what he does, never forgets to see the person in front of him and is always up for a laugh.

On behalf of the TDF crew, I wish Trevor and Angie all the best for their future endeavours.
