The Argentinian Connection

10-09-2007 | webmaster

Small numbers of stud-bred hinds have been departing for Argentina during the past few weeks, following purchases at this year’s stud hind sales.

Prominent breeder Clive Jermy of Stanfield’s Bushy Park says there is a small industry of around 25,000 animals in Argentina, exclusively focused on stocking hunting blocks with trophy animals.

“For three or four years at a time we don’t see anyone from Argentina and then they come over and buy a few hinds or stags at the auctions. We’ve had Argentinian support at our past two stag sales and they’ve bought from four or five studs this year.”

New Zealand itself has made enormous developments in development of trophy animals, based on sustained importations of overseas genetics over the past 25 years, he points out.
