TDF purchased by Country-Wide

21-08-2007 | webmaster

The Deer Farmer magazine has been purchased by Country-Wide Publications Limited (CPL), the publishers of Country-Wide and the NZ Farmers Weekly. The sale was settled yesterday.

The magazine and its associated titles NZ Deer Farming Annual and Hot Droppings e-letter will continue in their present form under the new owners. Editor Jackie Bedford will continue in her role.

Since its launch in 1979, The Deer Farmer has been highly regarded by deer farmers and other industry players for its independence and authority.

Former publisher Trevor Walton says he is proud of his association with the deer farming industry and what the magazine has achieved in 28 years.

"However, it is time to move on — both personally and for the good of the magazine. TDF needs the resources of a larger publisher in order to compete effectively and it also needs to be refreshed with new ideas.

"Modern deer farming is a vigorous industry, created by innovative New Zealanders. Nevertheless, like all industries, it needs an independent perspective if it wants to make good decisions, and to ensure that the views of ordinary farmers are heard.

"I am confident that under CPL's ownership, this independence and integrity will be preserved."

CPL directors Tony Leggett and Dean Williamson say they are delighted to add such a high quality and respected publication to their stable of titles.

"We've admired The Deer Farmer title for many years. Its emphasis on quality information and presentation means it is a great fit with our existing titles," Leggett says.
